Recommendations of the Northern Buddhist Conference on Ecology and
Development
- Establish an association to link the activities of temples and
monasteries, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and
donors.
- Produce a regular series of programs and articles concerning traditional
conservation, present these to the public through the press and broadcast
media.
- Prepare books and manuals on traditional conservation that meet
the standards of the public school curriculum.
- Train specialists in ecology and traditional conservation at the
Buddhist University.
- Work towards establishing a better legal environment for Buddhist
monasteries.
- Establish official ecological conservation days for the Buddhist
community.
- Resolve the dates of arrival of the naga to be observed throughout
Mongolia, and ensure that the associated taboos and symbolic customs
are respected.
- Develop Gandantegchenling Monastery / Centre of Mongolian Buddhists
as a model green monastery, using environmentally-friendly technologies.
- Link meritorious actions [funerals, etc.] with nature conservation
and restoration activities.
- Hold such a conference in future on a broader scale.
